Traffic Advisories From National Park Service
Transportation

These traffic advisories comes to us from William Line:

17th Street Levee Construction Project

The National Park Service (NPS) has reduced the number of travel lanes on

17th Street from four to two, with one lane open in each direction.

Two-way traffic is and will be maintained at all times during this first

phase of the project.  Work on the Levee itself will progress from the

middle of 17th Street east toward the Washington Monument.

When the Levee construction work is completed on the east side of 17th

Street (the side closest to the Washington Monument), work will then move

to the west side of 17th Street.  The traffic pattern will then reverse,

with the northbound lanes converted to one lane in each direction, for

approximately 60 additional days, while both southbound lanes will be

completely closed.  During this phase of the project, there will be two-way

traffic maintained at all times.

No work will occur between July 3rd and July 7th; however, the above-noted

lane restrictions will remain in place.  The planned completion date for

all work is scheduled for late 2011.

Constitution Avenue Reconstruction Project from 23rd Street, N.W. to 15th

Street, N.W.

The project consists of the rehabilitation of approximately 0.9 miles of

Constitution Avenue between 23rd and 15th Streets, N.W.  Work activities

include rehabilitating sections of roadway, replacement of the storm

drainage system, granite curb installation, lighting and fire hydrant

replacement and new sidewalks on both sides of Constitution Avenue.   At

Virginia Avenue N.W., the sidewalk will be extended to provide a safer

pedestrian crossing.  The contractor will provide an acceptable pedestrian

detour prior to removing sidewalk in one-block sections.  The project will

maintain two lanes of traffic in both directions during morning and

afternoon rush hours.

June 19 through June 25, 2011- drainage and utility work continue between

Henry Bacon Drive, N.W. and 17th Street, N.W.  Sidewalk removal and

installation will continue between 23rd Street, N.W. and 21st Street, N.W.

Monday, June 20 to Friday, June 24, (5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) expect up to

two (2) westbound lanes and up to two (20 eastbound lanes to be closed on

Constitution Avenue between Henry Bacon Drive, N.W. and 17th Street, N.W.

Sunday, June 19, to Friday, June 24 (7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.), expect up to

three (3) westbound lanes and/or three (3) eastbound lanes to be closed on

Constitution Avenue between Henry Bacon Drive, N.W. and 17th Street, N.W.

Saturday, June 18, and Saturday June 25 (7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) expect up

to three (3) westbound and up to three (3) eastbound lanes to be closed on

Constitution Avenue between Henry Bacon Drive, N.W. and 17th Streets, N.W.

The location of the lane closures may change daily. The intention is to

remove lane closures at the end of the each shift; however curb lanes may

remain closed for safety reasons.  Work may proceed through rush hours.
