Trucktoberfest At Union Market

Here's your chance to try all the area food trucks!

Trucktoberfest will feature over 40 local food trucks and lots of events. It will all take place on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Union Market located at 1309 5th Street NE.


"{The event] will give attendees the chance to visit their favorite food trucks in one place, while enjoying a full day of activities with friends and family," said Patrick Rathbone, DCFTA event organizer and owner-operator of Big Cheese food truck.

The 20th Annual Bluebird Blues Festival is coming to Prince George's County on Saturday, September 22, from 12:30-6 p.m. at the Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Md.

The Festival offers live entertainment on three stages, music workshops and activities for the entire family for free!

Cheeseburger Eating Contest During National Cheeseburger Day!

Attention Competitive Eaters!

BGR The Burger Joint, will host a cheeseburger slider eating contest on Tuesday to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day.

Contestants will compete to see who can eat the most sliders in 10 minutes. The champ will take home $500 cash prize and will get the chance to compete along four other regional BGR winners in the National finals on National Hamburger Day, May 28th.

The second place winner will get a $250 gift card to BGR and the third place will received a $100 gift card to the cheeseburger joint.

The contest starts at 12pm on Tuesday, September 18 at BGR The Burger Joint at 4827 Fairmont Avenue in Bethesda.

Not-So-Sweet 16 Cupcake Giveaway

Bankrupting America, a non-profit dedicated to providing facts and insight on the effects public policy, will give away 500 cupcakes on Capitol Hill on Thursday, Sept. 13.

The group says the event is to commemorate the national debt that surpassed the "sweet $16 trillion" mark. According to Bankrupting America the debt amounts to more than $50,900 for every man, woman and child in the U.S.

“[The] $16 trillion national debt will probably not garner much attention in Washington or the media since we are in the midst of political party conventions. Americans are worried though. The debt and government spending are top concerns for Americans, according to our recent, with large majorities seeing the connection between the debt and the health of both the economy and their personal financial well-being," Gretchen Hamel, Public Notice Executive Director for Bankrupting America said in a statement.

DC Rollergirls Season Opens On Sept. 22

The DC all-female roller derby league will open it's season at the DC Armory on Saturday, Sept. 22nd.

The league’s four teams -- the Cherry Blossom Bombshells, DC DemonCats, Majority Whips and defending champion Scare Force One -- will bring their tough skating action when they compete against each other during the regular season.

“You can’t beat the overall fan experience at Rollergirls’ bouts. There is energy, excitement, and serious competition as well,” Erik A. Moses, managing director of Events DC’s Sports and Entertainment Division said in a press release. “Whether you are a veteran fan or newcomer to roller derby, you don’t want to miss the great action and electric environment this season.”

The season will end with the league championship on Saturday, May 18, 2013.

If cartooning is your thing or if it catches your attention, this is the event for you!

 #!&% Cartoons, a festival celebrating the political cartoon, will be in D.C. at the George Washington University on Sept. 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is open to the public and will offer workshops, panel discussions and  a Cartoon Death Match.
