For the past six months, more than 40 neighborhood organizations, workers’ advocates, ANC officials, community leaders and clergy have worked together to craft an Enforceable Community Benefits Agreement ensuring that living standards and the quality of life for DC workers and residents would improve if Walmart opens four stores in the District of Columbia. Mayor Vincent Gray says he also wants a community benefits agreement with Walmart, but his negotiations with the company have not yet included community representatives.


That’s why the Living Wages, Healthy Communities Coalition will hold a rally to demand respect and their rightful seat at the table in negotiations with Walmart:

If you work near the Woodrow Wilson Plaza at the Ronald Reagan Building, bring your lunch outside and enjoy the great free concerts going on every weekday from noon til 1:30pm from now until September 23, 2011.  Smokey Robinson kicked off the summer series on Monday, June 13th, and many more acts will be following this week, such as:

This Saturday, the Washington Convention and Sports Authority and its partners are offering several free and affordable entertainment options for the whole family at RFK Stadium, on Kingman Island along the Anacostia River and throughout the nation’s capital.

NoMa's First Farmer's Market Starts Today!

The NoMa BID will kick off the neighborhood’s first farmers’ market today, June 8, at 1200 First Street NE from 3 PM to 7 PM. The market will continue every Wednesday throughout October. The producer-only market will offer locally grown produce, soups, breads, dairy and meats, as well as some prepared items like sauces and salsas. The market will also include chef demonstrations and tastings, this week will feature Chef Peter Smith of PS7.
