JOIN THE HAY-ADAMS FOR JAN. 27 AUTHOR SERIES WITH RICHARD MOE & LUNCH BY CHEF PETER SCHAFFRATH | Arts & Culture
The American lawyer and preservationist will discuss his latest book, Roosevelt’s Second Act, while The Hay-Adams Chef Peter Schaffrath presents a delicious lunch on Top of the Hay, the hotel's rooftop venue
On Monday, January 27, 2014, The Hay-Adams Author Series will welcome Richard Moe, who has had a distinguished career in government, law and historic preservation, to discuss his recent book, Roosevelt’s Second Act: The Election of 1940 and The Politics of War, while dining with guests at The Top of the Hay, the Hotel’s elegant rooftop spaces overlooking the White House. Chef Peter Schaffrath will prepare a delicious seasonal luncheon with dessert by Pastry Chef Josh Short.
After graduating from Williams College and the University of Minnesota Law School, Moe served as chief of staff for Vice President Walter Mondale, senior advisor to President Jimmy Carter, and president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which he led in its efforts to preserve historic sites and structures, such as those in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and the Manassas battlefields.
In 2007, Moe was awarded the Vincent Scully Prize by the National Building Museum in recognition of his leadership in moving historic preservation into the mainstream of American life. That same year he received the Theodore Roosevelt-Woodrow Wilson Award from the American Historical Association. In Roosevelt’s Second Act, published by Oxford University Press, Moe provides insight into the key political players of the time and why the contest that elected FDR to a third term might be the most important election in American history.
Hans Bruland, Vice President and General Manager of The Hay-Adams, will host the Author Series, along with The Honorable James Symington, a four-term member of the US House of Representatives. Tickets for the event, held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., are $85 and include a three-course meal, wine, tax and gratuity. Moe’s latest book will also be available to purchase.
